A statement from the artists:
The Table and Forest Floor is an immersive exhibition of Ilona’s exploration into the natural world of the forest and John’s calm and serene still life creations. Both share a level of realism through the use of alternative mediums such as charcoal/ink on archival paper and oil on panel.
Johns work draws upon a desire and need to escape from the pressures of the modern digital era. Time spent composing and painting represents a form of escapism into a calm world where the analogue decisions of colour and composition block out the noise. What started as a form of recuperation now maintains balance. His works invite the viewer to contemplate their mood in response to the overall atmosphere of each piece and the calmness and serenity of those compositions.
Ilona‘s interest in natural history drawings and how nature is presented to us through the museum can be seen in her meticulously drawn scenes. The drawings are an amalgamation of her experiences within the natural world distilled onto a surface as a personal need to preserve what she fears may be finite.
Open Tuesday – Saturday 09:30 – 16:00
