Moment to Moment Exhibition by Joel Benjamin

Building on his recent sketchbook work, Joel Benjamin presents a collection of drawings and text made from largely his own primary source material. Taking cues from the intimate photography of Jerry Hsu and the line drawings of David Hockney and Raymond Pettibon, Joel pays attention to passing moments of normalcy. The moments depicted are never sought out, only happened upon, captured and then hand drawn at a later time of reflection. Sometimes complimentary or contradictory are the text entries that stem from passing thoughts, memorised catchphrases and noteworthy song titles. Perhaps serving as illustrated mental noise against which the images of quiet presence sit. The intended message that the work conveys is a reminder not to let ourselves miss out on our own lives whilst navigating through an age of distraction.
