The work in this exhibition was made exclusively between October 2019 and September 2020. These abstract paintings combine subjects such as gases, boxes, archaeological calibrations, marker points, particulates and domestic objects within seemingly non-sensical and vexing associations. At times, geometric forms, lines and shapes intersect or abut exactly. Elsewhere, they mis-align, glance or overlap. A regular motif that appears within the imagery is that of a clay pipe, an object that lingers in living memory, but which predominantly exists only as fragments within the ground. The notion of the ‘not quite aligned’ alludes to the flaws in our perception of time and our relationship to material objects as well as each other.
